One of the goals of our lab is to acquire a better understanding of liver cancer and the mouse is used extensively as a model to understand this disease. For models to be used appropriately we must not only understand the similarities but also the differences between the models and that which we want to model. P53 mutation is found in over 50% of human liver cancer and yet that same prevalence is not seen in mice. My goal is to understand why there is such a big difference in frequencies of p53 mutation between humans and mice.
